I’m just an ordinary man living an extraordinary life. My career as a professional speaker was surprisingly shaped by two extraordinary and unexpected events.During the prime-of-life while living in San Francisco, I was hit by a truck while riding my motorcycle. I suffered severe burns over 60% of my body, including my face and hands. Four years later while living in Colorado, I suffered a paralyzing injury from a plane crash and would never walk again. So here I was, fingerless, a disfigured face and forever in a wheelchair. Everything in my life had changed and would never go back to the way it was—a tough reality! Thanks to my previous life-experiences and my natural feisty attitude, I knew, instinctively, that I would not give others control of my life. I had an uphill battle, but I also had the training and spirit of a proud US Marine and many loyal friends. Defeat was NOT an option! I slowly took charge of my life, gained a new perspective, and worked hard to build my independence as a triumphant survivor of two accidents.Today, I can honestly say I’m a happy man, living life with purpose, traveling worldwide, and always enthusiastic to meet new people. Since my accidents, I’ve had great careers in radio and television broadcasting. I was CEO of a major business, elected official, environmental leader, and even ran for congress. I’ve benefited from each experience but I truly found my passion in the world of professional speaking. I want to help people and organizations in their life and in their work.Since I’ve learned so much from these experiences, I can confidently speak to your pain when it comes to setbacks, unexpected changes, endless challenges, and feeling frazzled and burnt out.
