One of my favorite hobbies is storytelling. Figuring out how to learn the solution space in depth is one challenge, but being able to reach someone so that they engage and understand the importance of your message is another level entirely – especially in the tech world. Over the years I've enjoyed using storytelling to help my team understand our customers - and vice versa. On a personal level I've had a blast telling stories on stage, and spent years mentoring others in crafting their yarns as well.Communication is critical to the modern workplace. Complex systems can be abstract, even to those who understand them. That’s where narratives come in. Technology consumers can’t optimize their work if they don’t understand what’s available, and IT professionals can’t recommend good solutions unless they have a deep understanding of both the landscape and customer needs. That’s why I’ve spent my career trying to better listen and understand what the requirements are of everyone around me, as well as what tools and services we can bring to bear on their issues. I work to understand the organizations alongside so that we can all succeed at our aims together. This provides inspiring stories to tell my team about the lofty goals of those they’re working to assist, and visions for clients about how technology can transform the way they work.
