Co-developed Lightyears ‘Vehicle Performance Model’. This Matlab/Simulink based model describes all systems in the car that eventually contribute to the energy consumption of the vehicle e.g. aerodynamic drag, rolling resistance, motors, inverters, HV & LV battery, power converters, solar panel, auxiliaries, cooling system and HVAC for cabin conditioning. The model was used for critical design decisions like battery size, motor torque and solar layout, but also to verify whether there is enough battery power, motor torque and cooling capacity to drive up a steep mountain pass in hot conditions while also keeping the cabin comfortable for instance.

Benchmarking of competitor cars, Target setting for handling characteristics, analyzing the effect of unsprung mass of in-wheel motors. Developed 15 DoF vehicle dynamics model in Matlab and Simscape Multibody to simulate load cases and design suspension hardpoints and spring damper characteristics.

Responsible for the development of the wheels, suspension, steering and braking systems. Created an unique suspension layout that integrates Lightyear’s self developed in-wheel motors and extreme aerodynamic concept. Finally delivered all these systems for Lightyear’s first driving prototype.

Developed and validated vehicle dynamics models of the Model S.Worked on different control algorithms for active safety functions within the Autopilot group mainly focussing on the lateral control of the vehicle. Developed a 'software in the loop' simulation in Matlab Simulink to test new software in simulation before testing the C-code on a real vehicle.

I setup a simulation environment to explore the optimal location to collect the plastic debris of the Great Pacific garbage patch. I determined that a 100km installation can catch almost half the Great Pacific garbage patch in 10 years.
