I've been fortunate enough to have a variety of educational and professional opportunities, which have made me a well-rounded employee and team member. My educational background is grounded in communication and creativity, specifically English and creative writing. I still actively write fiction and poetry. And while I have not been called upon to write any poetry in my professional life, my command of the written word has been a frequent asset in the workplace.Professionally, I have spent a considerable amount of time teaching, before moving into the assessment side of education. I taught English Language Learners in a variety of contexts, including primary school children in China, college students, and adult students in a GED context. I have also taught writing and creative writing to native English speakers. In 2011, I began working in the field of English Language Assessment. In developing test content, I have drawn on both my experience as a writer and as a teacher. It is this content expertise that I bring to my current role at WIDA.
