Designed the Bruker BRAVO handheld Raman analyzer for pharmaceutical RMID. Responsible for the creation of mechanical user interface (including Intellitips, docking station, and touchscreen display) full software GUI design and workflow, software features for compliance with 21 CFR Part 11 (including the IQ/OQ/PQ test suite), initial database generation, training materials, and marketing collateral.• Created market and functional requirements documentation.• Developed solutions for pharmaceutical raw material identification, working with key customers.• Designed a novel, tablet-style, gesture-based design and graphical user interface to provide a competitive edge and to exceed customer requirements.• Ensured that the system hardware and software designs met all customer and regulatory requirements, including UPS, EP, GAMP, FDA, ASTM, ICH, CDRH, CE, UL.• Coordinated with the technical, sales, and marketing team, and managed 3 external development projects.• Established the laser safety program for all US sites as the laser safety officer.• Implemented a global product launch and sales strategy.

Developing innovative solutions for chem, bio, explosives, and hazardous chemical analysis using deep ultraviolet Raman, resonance Raman, and fluorescence.• Performed fundamental characterization studies of the existing mini PL/Raman UV Fluorescence and Raman instrument that improved the noise performance and calibration of the system. • Designed, built, aligned, and tested a slitless deep UV spectrograph, incorporating a multi-element PMT array that provided sensitivity improvements.• Conducted fundamental research and design of a new quarter meter UV spectrograph for use as a stand-alone product. • Performed bench level testing that proved UV Raman spectra could be collected though simple polyethylene bags, which had been considered not possible.

Technology and product development leader for portable Raman instruments. StreetLab, a portable Raman system targeted toward clandestine drug lab busts and forensic laboratories, launched in 2004, with total sales of ~300 units. StreetLab Mobile launched in 2008 and is target toward hazardous materials response teams.• Led teams to develop the award-winning StreetLab^TM (SL) portable and StreetLab Mobile^TM (SLM) handheld Raman spectrometers, generating > $7.5M in revenue.• Created and verified explosives, narcotics, and precursors libraries for SL and a managed an international team to create a 1000-compound hazmat library for the SLM.• Prepared and submitted all CDRH documentation for both products. • Presented SL and SLM at 20 major trade shows and conducted >20 instrument trials, including training and data analysis, directly resulting in sales of over 50 SL and SLM units (>$1.5M in revenue).• Created product white papers, user guides, product brochures, and training materials, and trained all key customers, including the CIA, Australian Customs, US Customs, NIJ, and the FBI.
