In 1966 two engineering professors at the UCLA were attending a tedious staff meeting. Having not met before, each professor was curious what the other was researching. One was a nuclear reactor designer. The other was performed dynamic earthquake tests on structures. Their conversation led to the creation of ANCO Engineers in 1971. Half a century later, ANCO provides innovative testing systems to university and industrial researchers worldwide. • Servo-hydraulic and electric earthquake shake tables for testing and qualification of structural models, components and equipment • Educational and low cost all electric shake tables • Public educational shake tables with capacity for one to forty passengers • Field testing of full size structures with eccentric mass vibrators for identification of system dynamic properties • Video systems for multi-axis non-contact measurement of structural vibration • Multi-axis load frames for evaluation including masonry and RC components • Geo-centrifuges with and without installed basket shake tables • Evaluation of laminar bearings and viscous, hysteretic, friction dampers • Design, installation and evaluation of structural isolation systems • Tuned mass dampers and active structural control systems • IEEE-344, AC-156, GR-63, IEEE-693, MIL-STD-167 testing ANCO has installed over two hundred dynamic testing systems worldwide and performed over three hundred structural tests in the field.
