About Career Mindfulness

Career Mindfulness is a recently founded company focusing on helping people get back into the workforce after an extended break. Whether you were raising your children, caring for an elderly family member, or you were laid off and having difficulty finding a new job, Career Mindfulness will help you navigate the job search process and help you to become a marketable candidate. We at Career Mindfulness believe that the best way to work on your job search is in person, with a community of others who are also looking for work. We also believe that the workshop we offer should consist of an industry-agnostic group of people. This means that we want people from all backgrounds and industries in the workshop so that the class can support and build off of each other. Career Mindfulness began in 2017 as volunteer work at the New York Public Library for the founder, Margaret Sweeney. Over the span of two years and hundreds of participants, the course has been tweaked and perfected. The workshop focuses on two main aspects of the job search: the mechanical aspect and the holistic aspect. The mechanics of the job search include the basics, or what you’d expect to find in a typical job search workshop: working on your resume and cover letter, leveraging LinkedIn, getting and preparing for interviews, and more. However, at Career Mindfulness, we strongly believe that there is another part of the job search, that we refer to as the holistic aspect, that many people don’t realize exists. The holistic aspect is what makes Career Mindfulness different. There are a lot of emotions and overall life challenges that are commonly found when searching for a job. Growing defeated and tired can quickly become a challenge for many. We’ve begun to refer to this cycle as the Emotional Rollercoaster of the job search. With methods such as meditation, setting boundaries, and figuring out why you are stuck, we’ve found that by taking care of yourself, you become a much more marketable candidate.
