Welcome to the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. We promote world-leading experimental and theoretical physics in all its diversity and encourage applied and collaborative research across disciplines and industries. We aspire to welcome and train future generations of physical scientists to tackle some of the toughest intellectual and experimental challenges in the whole of science. We aim to communicate the importance and excitement of contemporary physics and its cognate disciplines to school students and the general public through our Educational Outreach Office. In 2025, the Cavendish will be moving to its new home, the Ray Dolby Centre, which will mark the start of a new era for physics at Cambridge. The new state of the art facility is being purpose-built for our world-leading research programmes and will provide National Facilities for all UK Physics departments, sharing equipment and expertise. The Ray Dolby Centre has been made possible through the generosity of the Dolby family, who donated £85millions to Cambridge to help reimagine the possibilities of physics now and develop a new Cavendish Laboratory for the 21st century.
