Our research is focused on the structure and properties of historical materials, the mechanisms of their deterioration, and measures to conserve and protect cultural heritage. Special emphasis is laid on understanding deterioration processes induced by microclimatic variations and monitoring physical changes in the material fabric of historical objects using non-destructive research methods. The basic research is linked to extensive research programmes in museums and historical buildings, practical conservation work and the development of tools supporting preservation strategies of collections.
We are developing a digital decision-supporting platform HERIe (https://herie.pl/) providing remote access to data manipulation tools and to quantitative assessment of risks to heritage assets.
