The main objectives of CIRCLEAR project are to develop a unique sustainable and circular economy oriented product that embeds noise and air pollution reduction properties, that is easier to deploy and that even at the end of its life can be reused for at least 90% of the components, making superior to any competitor and allowing (with the mobile solution) to be scale up and rolled out quickly. CIRCLEAR integrates two existing products that have been brought by the respective partners and IP owners to a high TRL level: ISCLEANAIR, in 2021 (PURE project co-funded by EITM full industrialization of the APA Panel model) and RUNCOBAR (through ECO Innovation project by EACI) which was industrialised by Beton Lučko.
Project outcomes:
• Integrating APA's air pollution reduction into the RUCONBAR noise barrier will create the RUCONBAR-APA, a solution that simultaneously reduces air pollution and noise for road infrastructure
• The RUCONBAR manufacturing process will be redesigned for greater sustainability by using more recycled materials, reducing power consumption, and enhancing sound absorption
• Integrating RUCONBAR and APA-Panel technologies will optimize material use, streamline production, and increase the use of recyclable, durable components like recycled tires and less carbon-intensive materials
• Upgrading the production line will enable the integration of both systems, improving design, usability, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) performance for sustainable scaling
• AALTO University will lead testing and certification to ensure the new products meet structural, functional, and sustainability standards, with performance indicators evaluated through continuous noise and air quality measurements
