About COY Engineering Services LLC of Mount Pleasant, SC, was started in 2022 by Derek McCoy, providing freelance civil design and plan review services for a consultant and a small city in Western Washington when he and his family relocated to South Carolina. In 2025, he left his position as Principal Engineer in Dorchester County Public Works to form an up-start veteran-owned and operated firm to meet the commercial and residential Civil Engineering and construction permitting needs of communities in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties. Derek McCoy is a graduate of Colorado State University, retired after 20 years of service in the US Army, and has worked in many private and public capacities.
