About ExcellMater project

Successful development of novel biomaterials for utilization in medical devices is a complex process involving biomaterials synthesis and comprehensive characterization, regulatory aspects, prototyping, and device assessment regarding the manufacturing process as well as the clinical application. The Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, University of Belgrade (FTM) is one of the leading academic and research institutions in Serbia in the field of materials engineering including biomaterials engineering with the strong expertise in biomaterials synthesis and physico-chemical characterization. The project “Twinning to excel materials engineering for medical devices – ExcellMater” funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme aims to further increase the scientific and technological capacity of the FTM by twinning the expertise from leading international institutions in the area of biomaterials engineering with the special focus on translational research, commercialization and clinical applications. Various activities including short-term staff visits, exchange of students and young researchers, seminars, workshops and summer schools will be held to advance the research and innovation competences of FTM. These activities will also provide possibilities for the international partners to translate their knowledge and practices to FTM and the local ecosystem, thus increasing the impact of their R&D approaches internationally. In addition, at the end of the three-year project period an international scientific conference will be organized with the aim to increase the FTM visibility in Serbia and beyond.
