The Houston Forensic Science Center is an independent government company that oversees forensic operations that previously belonged to the Houston Police Department, including its crime scene unit. HFSC was created by Houston Mayor Annise Parker and approved by the Houston City Council. It has a CEO/President and responds to a Board of Directors that is also appointed by the Mayor and approved by City Council. HFSC currently operates in eight disciplines and is expanding.
