Jorhat Institute of Science & Technology (Assamese: যোৰহাট বিজ্ঞান আৰু প্ৰযুক্তিবিদ্যা প্ৰতিষ্ঠান), formerly Jorhat Science College is a Engineering cum Science college established in 1971 by the Govt. of Assam. It is situated in Sotai on the outskirts of Jorhat city. It is the first Science College of Upper Assam and third State Government run Engineering College of Assam. It is the only Government Engineering College of Assam which also offers both Engineering and basic Science Courses. Motto: Excellence in Action is Yoga The college offers bachelor's courses: Bachelor of Science in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Information Technology, and Bachelor of Technology/Engineering in the fields of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Power Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering & Civil Engineering. From academic year 2016-17, the institute has started offering M.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics, also B.Tech./B.E. in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering started from this academic year only. From the academic session 2017-18, JIST introduced M.Sc. in Chemistry with the approval of Dibrugarh University. In 2019, the institution has started PhD courses in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with the approval of Assam Science and Technology University. Formerly, all the courses were affiliated to Dibrugarh University until 2017. From 2017-18 session, the institute is affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University. The admission to the Engineering Course is based on a competitive entrance examination i.e Assam Combined Entrance Examination conducted by Assam Science and Technology University. For lateral entry into the undergraduate courses are done through the Joint Lateral Entrance Examination (JLEE) conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Assam. The admission in B.Sc courses in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics is based on class 12 board PCM % & for B.Sc. IT the institute conducts an entrance examination.
