About The Joint Civil Aid Corps - National Civil Defence
Welcome to the Joint Civil Aid Corps – a voluntary Emergency Support organisation. Its concept is to provide opportunities to learn and train in skills to support communities and professional services during emergencies. The Joint Civil Aid Corps (JCAC) consists of three distinctive, but interwoven, strands held together by the Executive body. The three strands – the Civil Aid Volunteer Corps (CAVC), Community Resilience Volunteers (CRVs), and the Civil Cadet Corps (CCC), each have their individual roles to play in an organisation that seeks to rebuild a Civil Defence Corps for the modern society. The CAVC is the adult operational arm of the organisation. Currently there are two streams within the units: First Aiders, and Generalists. As the organisation continues to develop the First Aiders will progress to our level of the Emergency Support Medic trained to deal with medical situations up to mass casualty events. As numbers grow, the generalists will be able to specialise in one of 20 other trades such as communications, security, logistics, and search & rescue to name just a few. The CRVs are our version of a Resilience ‘Neighbourhood Watch’. The CRVs are area specialists building and maintaining an in-depth background knowledge of their local areas, including facilities, parts which they consider a safety risk or hazardous, and where vulnerable people are. They will also act as resilience information conduits within their communities and participate in co-ordinated efforts should an emergency or other need arise. The CCC is the youth arm. The aim is to build confident and capable young adults, who will in turn, continue to support their communities throughout adulthood by joining the CAVC. Their training mirrors the training given to the adults and from the age of 16 it is expected that the senior cadets will start to work and qualify alongside the Adult units under the supervision of appropriate instructors.
