The rise of multi-cultural movements in many Western societies has resulted in more and more calls from analysts of varying persuasions to re-examine the issue of culture in psychoanalysis. Building on the works of Indian psychoanalyst and cultural theorist Sudhir Kakar, the Kakar Centre for Psychoanalysis and Culture works towards the creation of an ‘international psychoanalysis’ instead of merely local, national or Indian psychoanalysis.
