Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS) is a transformative law and justice themed academic and extracurricular program dedicated to empowering high school students facing barriers to postsecondary education. Many of these students face challenges arising from personal and systemic factors, such as race, socio-economic status, Newcomer status in Canada, and family or personal circumstances. Guided by equity and possibility, LAWS exposes participants to legal thinking and the justice system through workshops, mentorship, and employment programs, field trips, tutoring and more. These experiences not only help students develop key skills but also awaken their understanding of their own potential.
Celebrating two decades of impactful work, we continue to pursue our vision of accessible post-secondary education and a more inclusive legal sector. Our mission is to spark students’ interest in legal education, the justice system, and the legal profession; using legal studies as a tool to encourage high school completion and inspire postsecondary aspirations. Through our efforts, we aim to cultivate a legal community that both reflects and serves the diversity of Canadian society.
