Learning in Reach

Learning In Reach is a solutions driven non-profit organisation seeking, collaborating, implementing and driving solutions for impactful change in Lavender Hill, a gang-ridden area of Cape Town crippled by social ills. Our focus is on early childhood development, mindful that the child’s caregiver and surrounding environment has a crucial influence on the education and healthy development of the child, and also needs support and empowerment. Lavender Hill is a contained geographic area, bounded by a highway and a vlei. A focused project to improve the ECD offering provides an opportunity to make a real difference for an entire community, and to be able to measure the impact that that investment and effort has in the lives of the young people of the area. We have 28 existing ECD centres and 2 in the pipeline that simply need a hand-up and support to be able to deliver quality early childhood education, the will of energetic and engaging principals already exists to change the future trajectory and offer a better pathway to young people of the community. Over the next couple of years, we’ve set some ambitious but realistic targets. Children who benefit from our work this year, will reach their matric year in 2030, better prepared, more resilient, more able to dream of a future that is not limited to their current circumstances.
