About MACA - Mobility and Accessibility for Children and Adults Ltd.
macahub.org/ MACA is a registered charity, dedicated to advancing the rights of children and adults with disabilities and medical conditions to safe and accessible transport. Our experienced team of road safety, policy, and allied health experts work closely with families, health professionals, researchers, industry, and government to improve road safety and community participation for people with disability. MACA is leading a significant research and development agenda to close the gaps in research, policy, products and allied health training and practice that impacts on the transport of people with disabilities and medical conditions. We are also raising awareness and removing regulatory and legislative barriers by working closely with road agencies throughout Australia. Examples of our work: Launched a national information resource, funded by the Commonwealth Department of Social Services. Together with Curtin University, we undertook the largest and most comprehensive national survey investigating the knowledge and experiences of parents, health professionals and organisations about transporting children with disabilities and medical conditions. Ethnographic research with Monash University Emerging Technologies Lab where we are visiting families in their homes to understand the impact of transport arrangements in their daily lives. Delivered an Office of Road Safety – Road Safety Innovation Fund project to investigate buckle release challenges, including a review of AT buckle covers. This resulted in a buckle cover model policy and a call to action for industry to develop innovative solutions that meet real world needs of children and families. Established the world leading Australian Safety Assessment Program (AuSAP), funded by the TAC. AuSAP will develop information and prescribing advice based on the assessment of restraint options used by children with disabilities and medical conditions that do not comply with Australian standards.
