Monumental is a ground-up social initiative birthed through the Youth Action Challenge (YAC) Season 4, organised by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the National Youth Council.
We seek to normalise and encourage discussions around mental health as well as promote help-seeking behaviours in youths, leveraging upon an existing group that already functions as a source of support and meaning in youths’ lives: religious communities.
We recognise that religion is an integral element of Singaporeans' lives, and religious leaders serve as role models that provide guidance in youths' critical developmental periods. Hence, instead of creating or training support communities for youths from scratch, Monumental works toward improving the mental health literacy of religious leaders and their ability to identify and appropriately respond to youths in need of mental health support.
Founded by Gwyneth Thong, Chang Ye Rui, Loh Hui Wen and Lynette Tan, Monumental was the recipient of the YAC Season 4 Outstanding Award and the top grant of $50,000. The team was joined by Syed Muhammad Al-Hafiz and Cameron Choo in 2023.
