SBW was founded in 1976 by Wageningen University in conjunction with ornamental plants breeding companies in the Netherlands. Created with the purpose of developing tissue culture protocols for plant propagation. In 2005, SBW do Brasil was founded, and in 2008, after a spin-off, we began operating independently. Over the years, more than 600 protocols have been developed to multiply the most diverse plant species in the laboratory. In other words, developing plant multiplication protocols is part of our DNA, and we know how to do it very well. In 2014, Multicana Plus Service Ltda was founded, where we began to concentrate our research and service activities, allowing SBW do Brasil to focus on the large-scale propagation of crops for which we already have a developed protocol. Our main products today are: sugarcane, banana, papaya, blueberry seedlings, among others. Multicana Plus, in turn, since its origins, initially focused more on the sugarcane market, has been signing contracts over the years to develop protocols for several other cultivars. We currently have projects for the production of cloned seedlings of Coffee; Cocoa; Eucalyptus; Bamboo; Macaúba; and several other palm trees. For this reason, since June 2024 we have started operating as MultiCropsPlus, also known as MCP. Our focus is to develop plantlets production processes integrating several available technologies. The work begins with positive selection of the matrices, to then apply the best available in vitro technique – traditional meristem or somatic embryogenesis – and produce clones identical to the selected matrix, certified free of diseases. Once the micro seedlings are produced, they are planted with the help of robots in a 336-cell tray, accommodated in vertical farming so that they can be pre-acclimated inside the laboratory. Once ready and rooted, they are packaged and sent to customers so that they can complete acclimatization and hardening stages before planting in the field.
