National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Rural Development, is a premier national centre of excellence in rural development and panchayati raj.
The Institute build capacities of rural development functionaries, academicians, young students, community-based organisations, elected representatives, financial institutions, and other stakeholders through inter-related activities of training, research & consultancy, academic programmes, technology transfer, etc.

NIRDPR runs two full-time residential diploma programmes and four distance post graduate diploma programmes with an aim to create a committed and competent cadre of rural development professionals in the country and to address key policy and management issues in rural development.

Since its inception of academic programmes in 2008, about 800 development professionals who have passed out of the Institute have made a substantial contribution by working in flagship programmes of Central and State Governments, CSR foundations, NGOs, International Development Organizations etc. Many have also started social enterprises.
