The Department of Polymer and Process Engineering (DPPE) is one of the unique departments of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Under the supervision of highly motivated faculty members, the Department performs fundamental and applied research in polymer science, polymer engineering, process engineering, and chemical engineering. The faculty members are enthusiastically working toward creating a highly competitive academic and research environment in the Department.
The Department houses state-of-the-art advanced characterization equipments such as DSC, TGA, FTIR, UV-vis-IR, DMA, UTM, XRD, AFM, SEM, DLS, GPC, Rheometer, Twin screw extruder, Injection molding machine, Micro extruder & injection molding machine, Hakke blender, Rubber processing instruments, to name a few. A detailed list of the instruments can be found here. The department faculties are engaged in extensive research duly supported and funded by several industries and government funding agencies. The research activities are strongly supported by nearly 60 Ph.D. students working in various emerging areas. The research results are communicated by publication in esteemed international journals, patents, and technology transfer. The publication per faculty ratio is among the highest within the institute. Various government agencies (DST, SERB, Imprint, UAY, ONGC, DRDO, etc.) and industry bodies (Dow Chemicals, Fine Organics, Permionics, IOCL-Total, Bharat Electronics Limited, RPG Industries, DTIL, etc.) fund the research programs of the Department.
