The RUPT research group has the following expertise in-house:
• Atmospheric pressure plasma assisted deposition of a large number of precursors can be performed on lab-scale and/or can be scaled up.
• The stability of the coating can be investigated and optimized. Many studies mention the deposition of a specific coating, but do not describe the stability of the coating. Mostly because obtaining a stable coating is a challenging task and in many cases the developed coating are not stable in humid environments. Deposition of a stable coating is mostly limited to a very narrow plasma operating parameter range and an extensive parameter determination is always needed to achieve stable coatings.
• A complete physical and chemical characterization of the deposited layers can be done in our lab. RUPT has in-house the following analytical tools: X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) with Ar and C60-sputtering (the latter is needed for depth profiling of polymer coatings), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, FT-IR-microscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), water contact angle (WCA) goniometers, optical coating thickness measurement, tensile testers, microscopes, climate chambers for ageing experiments, etc.
