Commencing operations in 1969, Scanline was an early adapter and pioneer of the circular economy, transforming what was once a troublesome waste product often poured down the drain polluting our waterways - into valuable new resources that contribute to a more sustainable future.
Much of the waste cooking oils Scanline collects across the country are sent to our renewable fuel facility in Maitland NSW, where it is transformed into biodiesel. Biodiesel, a sustainable, biodegradable and cleaner burning alternative to petroleum fuels, reduces carbon emissions by up to 80 percent. Alternatively, when processed to the 'National Standard for the Recycling of Used Cooking Fats and Oils', the UCO is repurposed as a nutritious and functional ingredient in animal feed. Over half of the UCO collected by Scanline is recycled in this way and supplied to local Australian farmers and animal feed manufacturers. By seeking and securing domestic customers and fulfilling a need for quality stock feed additives, Scanline has negated the need to export product around the globe thus minimising our carbon footprint.
