SDGZero - the missing SDG

Every product or service has two kinds of people behind it: 1 An Innovator, who can clearly identify the core problem to be solved, understand the nature of the problem, and iterate through solutions to reach an acceptable one. 2 An Entrepreneur who converts the problem into an opportunity, creates value, assembles resources, takes risks, and builds a sustainable business. This is true for any product or service from a pencil to a ride-sharing app. These two people or “skills” could be a single individual or a large team. Innovators and Entrepreneurs essentially create value in a situation of need and capture value through gainful implementation of the solution. In short, they create wealth through solving intractable problems that others want solved but haven’t the thoughts, ideas, experience or resources to progress. So what does it have to do with the UN Sustainable Development Goals? The seventeen SDGs are primarily themes with entangled problems, many of which have been around for a while and have severely curbed larger progress. What do we know? 1 The drive for designing and implementing solutions for these problems will only come from offering opportunities to make significant returns. Profit is not a dirty word if you want a sustainable solution. 2 Development of innovators and entrepreneurs accelerate creation of solutions and scaling to other regions.
