The Toronto Family Study: 25 Years Later

The Toronto Family Study: 25 Years Later (TFSplus25) research project will contact and re-interview 888 children first interviewed between 1993 and 1996, at ages 9 to 16. The study will examine the impact of parental family and work arrangements in childhood on their current well-being (at ages 35-45), educational and occupational outcomes, family status, and social attitudes. Specifically, we will assess whether midlife adults reflect their parent’s gender-egalitarian household and work practices in childhood. This research project draws on the life course tradition to investigate the relative importance of family background, maternal employment histories, and gender role socialization on adult children’s work-family situations and goals.
