About The 1752 Group
Research and Knowledge Exchange – Lead: Dr Anna Bull Policy and Consultancy – Lead: Dr Tiffany Page Advocacy and Campaigns – Lead: Dr Emma Chapman Sexual misconduct by staff is under-reported and under-researched. Higher education institutions in the UK need to be leading the change to prevent cultures of abuse, respond effectively and without inflicting further harm, ensure robust, student-centred reporting and investigation procedures, and implement policies and procedures to eliminate the sexual misconduct of academic, professional services, contracted and temporary staff. The 1752 Group is leading action on staff sexual misconduct in higher education, drawing on our expertise from backgrounds in organisational change, student unions, private and public sector consultancy, facilitation, corporate training, grassroots activism, and research. We advocate for an evidence-based approach to addressing sexual misconduct in higher education. We have established five strategic priorities for the higher education sector in the UK to begin to address sexual misconduct. All five must be enacted together as part of an overall, wide-ranging and comprehensive approach to this issue: * Highlight the damaging and pervasive presence of sexual misconduct in higher education * Prevent and address sexual misconduct is prevented and addressed in higher education * Support those affected by sexual misconduct through amplification and advocacy * Aid the higher education sector in recognising their historic complicity and present vital role in enacting change * Drive research into the enabling cultures and effects of sexual misconduct both on the individual and the academic landscape Our strategic priorities for the higher education sector in the UK are not listed in order, but need to be enacted together as part of an overall, wide-ranging and comprehensive approach to this issue.
