VisAble works through leading a systems approach to responding to and preventing abuse of disabled people, we are not an additional traditional service.
VisAble provides a twin track approach.
One track: Disabled people who cannot leave an unsafe situation because of their support needs or their limited ability to recognise risk to safety are adults at risk (called “vulnerable adults in current legislation) and need specific input into the response to their abuse.
Another track: Other disabled people may be able to access mainstream family violence services with appropriate support to access them.
VisAble builds the capacity and capability of both disability sector and family violence sector organisations to better recognise, respond to, and prevent abuse of disabled people and their whanau.
