Responsibilities included gas & power trading activities, both inside and out of normal working hours. Trading authority extended to balance of week and front weekend. The role included speculative trading, around views on supply/demand fundamentals and sentiment in both the Gas and Power markets. Responsible for short term gas and power market analysis (specific projects and on an ad-hoc basis) to aid trading and where possible to highlight potential areas of significant value for the curve traders in each commodity. Operations include daily management of short-term gas basis positions (NBP/ZHUB) to ensure optimisation of the company’s share of the UK/Continental Gas Interconnector, short term swing contracts, beach swaps, managing of prompt physical and virtual Storage, gas and power notifications to the grid, and end of day balancing physical positions for both the power stations and gas portfolios.

Maintaining Crude Dated to Paper exposure derived from internal physical positions, internal and external trades. Calculation of daily inventory and physical hedging requirements. Daily computation of VaR (Paper and Physical). Role was a fast moving role which required quick answers to queries and problems proposed by the traders. Financial support to trading floor, back-office booking of physical and derivative trades. Month-end reconciliation and analysis. Reviewing and maintaining Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) documentation. Communicating with external and internal vendors/customers for contractual cargo pricing/terms/conditions.
