Having gained a first-class degree in ‘Theatre and Creative Writing’ with the University of the West of England proves I have strong written and oral communication skills. The nature of the course forces you to work with a variety of different groups as well as independently, to develop productions to a professional standard for paying audience members. Because of this degree, I have learnt a variety of working styles and the ability to adapt quickly to new situations as well as make real time decisions in response to changing circumstances. We are taught how to be curious, to question, and to always see the other viewpoint.Having also worked on many shows behind the curtain as a stage manager I am used to leading crews and casts of up to seventy; this has taught me that through collaboration we can be so much stronger than working as individuals. Throughout my time as a stage manager I have proved my organisational skills by calling the shows (the person on the communications, giving cues to each department) and an acute attention to detail by being in charge of risk assessing shows each night. The theatre industry encourages you to build resilience to adversary and, in turn, has created a long-lasting stamina and dedication. Being a stage manager has taught me how to work in a fast paced environment and act as a mediator between different departments solving any issue that arise while pleasing everybody involved.At my most recent job I used computers daily for work and this feels second nature to me. I used a variety of programmes such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and a few specific programmes related to the kiwi-fruit industry such as Inspect. Part of my role was to greet multiple people every day and help organise the logistics of the lab, directing people where to go and answering questions about the company. One of my daily duties was to manually log in codes into our data program in a timely manner with hour by hour deadlines. This has serious consequences for the kiwi fruit industry if this is done wrong. Therefore, it needs attention to detail when preparing reports for senior management and accuracy with numbers when approving the data for clients as well as working efficiently under pressure.
