Solid Mechanics Teaching Assistant
Teaching Assistant
As a TA in the Dartmouth Machine Shop, I instruct Dartmouth students on the operation and maintenance of manufacturing machines. To this end, I was trained on how to use Trak mills, Trak lathes, band saws, belt sanders, laser cutters, and SolidWorks CAD modeling software to then help train other students.
Research Assistant
During the summer of 2023, I was a research assistant in Dr. Ian Baker's Materials Science Lab. My project focused on developing economically and environmentally efficient composite nickel-iron magnets to rival dominant rare-earth magnets. My job included analyzing simulated models of crystalline lattices to discover favorable mixtures of nickel, iron, and other elements alongside Graduate Student Dylan Barbagallo. Using this information, I manufactured potential magnets using the processes arc melting, cold rolling, and electro-pulse annealing. Then I analyzed various material properties of these potential magnets utilizing X-ray diffraction microscopy, electron diffractometry, hardness testing, and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). Sometimes, I would have to devise workarounds when these processes yielded less than desirable results, such as creating sample mounting jigs or modifying sample polishing procedure. I then organized my data and presented relevant findings in weekly team meetings. Additionally, I combed through relevant literature to find potential alternative angles to our research.
Engineering/Data Science Intern
In my time working at Lyndra, I was put in charge of developing a graphical user interface (GUI) with Python to facilitate the seamless processing of thousands of data points from the company’s proprietary in-vitro model for testing mechanical stress on LYNX™ the delivery system. This GUI shortened the typical data input process ten-fold (from 10 minutes to 1 minute), dramatically increasing efficiency. Additionally, I helped assemble machinery used to test mechanical stress on the LYNX™ delivery platform.
Engineering/Data Science Intern
During the summer of 2021, I worked as an Engineering and Data Science intern at Lyndra Therapeutics. I was tasked with designing and implementing a company-wide data management tool that would organize data outputted from a mechanical stress test on the company's LYNX™ platform. I then implemented a way for this data to automatically be uploaded to Amazon Web Services for processing. After data processing, I created data visualizations to be presented in meetings.
