As someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and loves to chase the next intellectual challenge, AMS has been a great fit.👒𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: Putting on my HR hat, I've so far guided the company through creation of new processes and procedures, rolled out training programs to mitigate risk, increased employee engagement and retention, and totally redesigned the benefits program.👒𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: Putting on a (para)legal hat, to ensure the continued financial success of AMS, I've negotiated client and vendor contracts always with a mind toward budget, profitability, and the sales cycle. Additionally, I liaised with outside counsel where necessary, including ERISA, HIPAA, immigration, and patent/trademark matters. I also managed payroll and leave compliance across 13 states and maintained and negotiated the company's commercial insurance program.👒𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: With my compliance hat on, I've leveraged profound knowledge of legalities, operational protocols, and compliance to partner with our CTO in reducing corrective action plans (CAPs) related to HITRUST audits by a significant margin. I've also served as a critical member of the company's risk assessment team.👒𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: As a change leader at AMS, I have partnered with the entire executive team to spearhead organizational design changes emphasizing sound structure that combines business needs with EQ toward employees that will be a solid foundation for the company's evolution in its next phase of growth. I have also managed a small but growing compliance team.

In the last year and a half of my employment with SWB, I was promoted to serve as both senior litigation paralegal and benefits specialist. I attended board meetings for multiemployer benefit fund clients and performed extensive research on everything from ERISA and ACA to HIPAA and the recently passed SECURE Act. I prepared and revised plan documents and interpreted existing documents (SPDs, SMMs, and amendments). This involved extensive work with attorneys on all employee benefits litigation, including balance bill claims, fraud, fiduciary responsibility claims, and interpleaders. I analyzed the ever-changing legal landscape and new legislation/laws to keep up with developments in the employee benefits arena. Additionally, I reviewed all QDROs (qualified domestic relations orders), property settlement agreements, divorce decrees, and other state court documents for multi-employer fund client participants to ensure compliance with the Tax Code and ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act).

SWB is where I learned law, business, and the value of wearing many hats. 👒𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: As a senior litigation paralegal, I leveraged project management processes (e.g., planning, prioritizing, and delivering on multiple and concurrent projects) to do legal research, draft pleadings, respond to discovery requests, and prepare and file motions by their deadlines. 👒𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: I became known as a subject matter expert on legalities surrounding discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage violations, and labor disputes. That knowledge caused me to be repeatedly selected to serve as co-investigator in employment investigations ranging from racial discrimination complaints to sexual harassment to nepotism. In response to those investigations, I prepared investigation reports, offering actionable recommendations for resolving workplace disputes, concerns, and issues. 👒 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: I attended collective bargaining negotiation sessions, grievance hearings, arbitrations, and worked alongside attorneys to create dozens of collective bargaining agreements, memorandums of agreements, and letter agreements. 👒𝗝𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: My work was performed primarily in Pennsylvania and New Jersey state courts, Third Circuit federal courts, and state and federal agencies (such as the EEOC, PHRC, NLRB, PLRB, DOL, IRS, and others).👒𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: In addition to my legal work, I also supervised two junior paralegals and one administrative assistant, including navigating the complexities of moving operations from entirely on-site to entirely remote while retaining employee engagement and productivity alongside revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic.
