Hospira is one of the leading providers of injectable drugs and infusion technologies. I worked in Corporate Quality and Validation division to ensure that Hospira's facilities, equipment, and systems are validated to guarantee consistency and quality of drug product. As Validation Engineer, I provided project management for the roll-out of a software to ensure laboratory data integrity by developing project schedules to track project critical path and completion, regularly communicating project deadlines at meetings, and developing and executing testing protocols to generate a complete software validation package. I also researched FDA and other regulatory body requirements and edited corporate standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain compliance to most recent regulations.I successfully completed a 6 month internship in this division, and was offered the opportunity to continue my work through a joint Hospira-Northwestern agreement in which I developed quality risk management training materials for the Hospira global network. These roles have sharpened my skills in technical/scientific writing, project management, and communication.

The Woloschak Lab studies the biological applications of nanoparticles. One application currently being investigated is drug delivery via nanoparticles.This research aims to overcome the current inability of small molecule chemotherapeutics to specifically target cancer cells without causing damage to otherwise healthy cells. The goal of my research is to analyze the sub-cellular distribution of nanoparticles in order to develop an improved cancer treatment that can not only kill malignant cells, but do so in a less invasive manner.

I coordinated vendors for the seasonal market by providing instruction on- and off-site. In addition to planning and organizing market vendors, I also promoted the farmers market through frequent interfacing with customers and vendors. To ensure the highest standards for the market, I also oversaw that health and safety requirements were met.

I studied the Gs-mediated signaling pathway in an endocrine disease, McCune Albright Syndrome. Our lab investigated secondary mutations in Gs that can suppress the disease-causing mutation. My responsibilities included transfection of cells with different forms of Gs and measurement protein expression by Western blot, as well as cAMP-mediated signaling by ELISA. This work was a structure-based approach at drug discovery for the treatment not only of McCune-Albright Syndrome, but of other diseases associated with abnormal G-protein activation. I was invited to present my research at the Experimental Biology conference in San Diego in April 2014.
