He has complete experience of the overall R&T/R&D process from concept and bid development, technical requirements analysis, solution specification and implementation, and verification and performance evaluation. He is a long-term expert advisor to the European Commission in the development and execution of framework research programmes (e.g. FP7, H2020). He has had significant responsibility in standards bodies in communications and aviation including ISO, ETSI, Eurocae and ICAO. His previous employment has been mainly in the academic domain, initially as a developer of distributed networked applications for the UK academic community, then as a researcher in wireless mobile communications, and recently as a teacher and research manager at Professorial level. He was a contributor to the design and implementation of the first large scale IP network in the UK for the Universities.After retiring from academia he worked for Airbus Defence and Space (Newport) as Senior Expert, specialising in aviation telecommunications, particularly for Uncrewed Aircraft Systems.After retiring from Airbus he has contributed to several research projects and now works at the Digital Catapult in the 5G team.
