I began working in Dr. Dan Sem's lab at CUW in April 2014. I work on a drug discovery project looking for alternatives to hormone replacement therapy through the use of enzyme-based and cell-based assays. I also mentor a graduate student, training her to conduct CYP450 assays. Past projects have involved breeding and rearing zebrafish, protein purification of sterol carrier protein 2, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis drug discovery, which included protein purification and enzyme assays. I have also had the opportunity to do some adjunct teaching for the Department of Natural Sciences. My current position is grant-funded and so I am open to discussions about how my skills can help your lab or company. Feel free to connect or message me.Previously, I worked as a researcher and lab manager for Dr. David Frick at UWM. The project was a Hepatitis C drug discovery project where we targeted the viral helicase. Towards the end of my position, I was also involved in drug discovery for Dengue virus. My responsibilities were varied and included conducting assays (helicase unwinding, enzyme-DNA binding, and cell-based assays), high-throughput screening, compound management, data management, PubChem deposition, lab supply purchasing and organization, maintaining lab equipment, and training new lab personnel. My other past experiences are also varied. In graduate school I conducted a lot of nutrient assays and gained much experience with microscopes. I also have a lot of teaching experience from being a teaching assistant (teaching lab sections at UWM), an adjunct lecturer (at MATC), an online assistant (for my MSc adviser), and a high school science educator (for Upward Bound Math and Science at UWM and in MPS in the Teaching Fellows program). I love my mix of responsibilities and am specifically interested in positions where I can continue to grow science and management skills. Lastly, I love health and nutrition and have a broad base of knowledge just due to my interest.
