Profile bio

About Amy Sutton

I'm a strategist, analyst, evaluator, social researcher and learning specialist in support of systems change for positive social impact, for and with people most affected by those systems. Over my career, I have brought my technical strategy, monitoring, evaluation and learning skills and knowledge to a range of social issues - including migration, criminal justice, education, gender-based violence and child protection. I've had to learn quickly, zooming in and out between big picture and strategy and depth and detail. Recognising that some view strategy, monitoring, evaluation and learning as a burdensome add-on to the real work of social change, I strive to demonstrate the opposite - that good learning approaches help us achieve positive impact. At Porticus, I spearheaded the end of reporting - developing a meaningful and equitable learning practice with our grantee partners about things that matter more (outcomes - or change - and how and why it happened, or didn't) instead of written reporting about things that matter less (outputs and activities). I successfully rolled out this new practice across the organisation in 2023. Academically, I have a BA in English and Philosophy, an MA in Human Rights and a lot of training in different strategy and MEL approaches and theory. I've trained in facilitation, partnership brokering, gender equity and social inclusion, as a teacher and a trainer, and have strong practical experience in all these areas. I have worked for NGOs, charities and philanthropic foundation, and with diversely different people - from those directly affected by systemic and social injustice, to governance members whose experience can be far removed from the issues they aim to address.I'm happy to connect on LinkedIn or email me at amyatschool@gmail.com.
