The role has provided a wealth of experience in contaminated land remediation. Responsibilities include; occupational health and environmental sampling and monitoring, supervision and monitoring of borehole installation and exploratory trial pits, use of extensometer, management of a large database using Holebase, GDMS and Alcontrol @mis. Work involves both site based investigation and office work with trial pit logging and assistance to the senior scientist with monthly remediation reports. I assess results for soils against the clients’ specification and report and failings in accordance with criteria set for the area of site. This includes the handling of geotechnical and chemical analysis. I am involved in overseeing the installation of boreholes by contractors and mange the team to ensure everything is done according to work permits. Originally I was involved in taking only environmental sampling but I volunteered for occupational health monitoring and have recently stepped up to be trained to provide holiday cover for the database manager. I successfully manage and prioritise my time and workload to ensure the more important items are completed first and in a timely manner in order to report them to the client, allowing room for amendments if necessary.
