Student Researcher Of Urban Heat Island And Access To Green Spaces In Southeastern Colorado Springs
Capstone Research project conducted in an interdisciplinary team of students and Environmental Science faculty as a consultant team for the non-profit Solid Rock in Colorado Springs. Led data collection and data analysis using ESRI Arc GIS Pro to look at scientific and demographic data of Southeast Colorado Springs residents. Reviewed public policies implemented in other cities to reduce the impact of the Urban Heat Island and to improve the access and quality of green spaces for disenfranchised neighborhoods. Compiled data and literature reviews into a report for city planners in Colorado Springs. Presented findings and recommendations of project to Solid Rock members, Colorado Springs City Planners, Parks & Recreation Coalition members and Southeast Colorado Springs residents.
Video Producer & Editor
I collaborated with Food to Power non-profit to create a storytelling video series project that captured the stories of various people impacted by Food to Power, including community members, volunteers and/or staff. I was leader of project the project design, I managed the outreach and communication with our interviewees, and structured interview questions. I taught myself how to use Davinci Resolve software to edit all videos. It was a beautiful process and would have not been possible without the help and commitment of Gillian Lasher, Slade Custer and our over 15 interviewees.
Food Educator Volunteer
I assisted as a Food Educator in the summer program for high schoolers that come from neighborhoods facing food insecurity. The program focused on developing hands-on skills with urban farming, composting and cooking in addition to educational workshops about food justice and ways to empower the students towards food sovereignty. My focus was to build relationships with the students and learn together from a mentorship type of relation. I loved seeing our students excited to garden, learn new recipes and cooking skills in every session. I also was involved in team building activities to build group cohesion. During the Fall, I worked as a Food Educator in bi-weekly workshops geared towards middle-schoolers that came from neighborhoods facing food insecurity. The educational workshops focused on teaching urban farming and cooking. The goal was to empower the children to work with their hands and to build self-esteem through successful creations in the kitchen.

Investigated how water managers in Castle Rock and other Front Range municipalities are planning for climate-resilient water storage, supply and usage through interviews and vast literature reviews.Produced a report with findings and recommendations of climate-resilient water management practices for water managers in the Front Range such as Aquifer Storage and Recovery, a more financially and environmentally sound alternative to surface reservoirs.
