I work with researchers to prepare their data for release to the GenBank sequence database. Specifically, I work in the Whole Genomes Shotgun (WGS) group at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). The WGS section of GenBank contains incomplete genomes or incomplete chromosomes that are being sequenced by a whole genome shotgun strategy. My interests are in automated annotation, annotation standards, identification of large scale genome features (operons, prophage regions, pathenogenicity islands), and comparative genomics.

JCVI streamlined the Informatics Department organizational structure in Dec '09 eliminating line management responsibilities and realigning staff within affinity groups. I worked in the Prokaryotic Affinity Group as a Lead Bioninformatics Analyst. I was responsible for the annotation and GenBank submission of prokaryotic projects at JCVI. The majority of my work supported the Genome Sequencing Center for Infectious Diseases (GSCID) and the Human Microbiome Project (HMP). I also supported JCVI faculty on individual genome projects. Additionally, I maintained and developed components of the JCVI automated prokaryotic annotation pipeline. My interests are in automated annotation, annotation standards, identification of large scale genome features (operons, prophage regions, pathenogenicity islands), and comparative genomics.

I managed the Prokaryotic Annotation Team at JCVI. We were responsible for the annotation and GenBank submissions of prokaryotic projects at JCVI. The majority of our work supported the Microbial Sequencing Center (MSC), Biodefense Resource Center (BRC), and the Human Microbiome Project (HMP). We also supported JCVI faculty on individual genome projects. I also managed the maintenance and development of the JCVI automated prokaryotic annotation pipeline. My interests are in automated annotation, annotation standards, identification of large scale genome features (operons, prophage regions, pathenogenicity islands), and comparative genomics.

I began in the Molecular and Plasmid Biology Department working in the production laboratory using restriction mapping techniques to verify recombinant DNA submissions made to the ATCC. I then moved to a research laboratory where I worked on a project using a modified fluorescent DNA sequencer to generate HindIII/EcoRI restriction maps of a Saccharomyces cerevisiae Lambda clone library constructed in Maynard Olson's Laboratory at Washington University. I also developed and implemented a multiplex PCR mapping strategy for characterizing Human Brain EST clones constructed in J. Craig Venter's Laboratory at NINDS. I then joined the Cell Biology Group where I developed and implemented an STR-locus-based authentication methodology for the Human Cell Line Collection at the ATCC.
