I began my career as a research assistant gaining extensive experience (10+ years) in automated fluorescent DNA sequencing/mapping machines working on several Human Genome Project-funded studies at the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC). Along the way I became interested in bioinformatic analysis and used this skill set for biocuration of prokaryotic genomes at The J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), formerly known as The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR), for almost 15 years.
