Tool Designer.
CurrentIn 2006, working as a chimney sweep, I started noticing the tool boxes of most coffee roasters lacked sufficient tools to clean the roasters venting, fresh air basket and drum cavity areas that collect the most byproducts like chaff, coffee pollen and moisture laden coffee creosote, all contributors that lead to a choked, inefficient system or even a chimney fire.As a Master Chimney Sweep/Mason, I have been involved with many projects over the span of my career. I have witnessed a lot of different designs and venting practices that still make me scratch my head. But when 3 roasters caught fire in the last two years locally, and over 1800 nationally, this raised my awareness. As an advocate for fire safety, I wanted to change this part of the industry and bring maintenance back to the coffee roasters where it belongs and where they can take control of their own cleaning schedules dependent on their own volume and needs. In 2009, I started to develop tools specific to the needs of the local coffee roasters, and after a couple of years in R&D, I came up with the Iron Dragon scouring orbital tools that clean hard creosote embedded on the inner pipes, as well as the fresh air basket and drum cavity. It was this breakthrough that surprised the local roasters and a few roasters abroad. With great feedback from the roasting community, I decided to open Iron Dragon Tools (a full-blown forge, metal and fabrication shop) to build the cleaning tools needed by the coffee roasters’ industry. Now, all you need is a set of Iron Dragon Tools in your toolbox is to let us know what kind of machine you have and your vent diameters.
