While taking a pre-law class on public presentation in Spring 2011, was chosen to TA the new version for Spring 2012. As a team, planned the course (“Persuasion”) description, objectives, and reading assignments. During the course, met with students to improve public presentation skills, led presentation groups, provided positive critique, contributed to assessment of students, and adjusted the course to the class’s needs.

Maintained the lab, took statistical data on student usage, and helped students with software interaction. Was also in charge of filling and unjamming printers, and being on-call when students in unsupervised labs require assistance. Oversaw other lab monitors and obtained supervisor position in February 2009.

Team of 3 students extended grant funds (≈$4000) to an underprivileged neighborhood in Kalamazoo for community beautification. Worked with neighborhood associations and utilized one-on-one meetings to understand residents, and work alongside them to complete projects planned and designed communally. Led from behind to reach out, educate, and empower and to overcome neighbor-based stigmas and conflicts through teamwork. Race, class, and ego conflicts required patience, listening, and good communication for resolution. Some relationships with community members are still maintained.http://www.bbkazoo.org/

QEJ is a non-profit working for LGBT rights among the working class, poor, and homeless. As part of a team of 4, organized retraceable outreach to shelters, soup kitchens, churches, and needle exchanges across five boroughs of NYC and collected response data for further research and grants. Also constructed a resource guide specifically for our constituency, including detox programs, sliding scale doctors/psychologists, trans-friendly lawyers, amongst others. Assisted and led LGBT support groups at NYC women‘s shelters three times/week.

Recruited, briefed, supported, and worked alongside volunteers for the Greg Jennings-sponsored "fast-build" at KVHH. Involved community businesses in our work by encouraging them to volunteer or make donations to volunteers (hosting a lunch, for example). When not working on the fast-build, supported other operations of the organization: managed volunteer data from different builds, assisted supervisor with a youth education program, and actively deepened understanding of KVHH by sitting in on board meetings and other committees (e.g. the family selection committee).

Megan's time with Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity (KVHH) was a 300-hour service term AmeriCorps position. Michigan LISC AmeriCorps team had monthly meetings and community action events, and required capacity reports of placement site's progress.

As a cashier, took and assembled customer orders. As a senior employee, was also in charge of customer interaction, floor maintenance, employee training, and occasional off-site catering and marketing.
