About Ben Walters

I aim to create and discover new technology in order to improve the lives of those in need.I've been tinkering with toys and tractors to figure out how they work since I was little, but going into college I thought I would go to medical school so I could help people in the most direct way I knew possible. However, I started working on medical devices in college, and saw how it required creative problem solving. Introducing experience in entrepreneurship into my engineering background, I wanted to be capable of identifying a problem, creating a solution, and getting that solution into the hands of others. As a recent graduate from Purdue University Biomedical Engineering & Entrepreneurship with Highest Distinction, my goal is to use my unique combination of technical problem solving with entrepreneurial mindset to solve challenging problems that people are encountering.

    Designing and building a novel Kangaroo Mother Care smart device intended to replace NICU's for premature newborns in low resource settings. A joint project with the Purdue University Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and Indiana University School of Medicine. I was responsible for the development of the measurement system of vital signs of the newborn including circuitry design, signal acquisition, and algorithm design. Throughout this experience I had the opportunity to give an oral presentation at the 2019 National BMES conference in Philadelphia, submit a respiratory measurement technique for patent, and write a first-authored academic paper exploring this technique. Additionally, I have been grateful to contribute to 6 (and counting) other papers and presentations.
