Under my leadership, we:-Opened nine new businesses on Washington Boulevard, creating dozens of new full-time and part-time jobs. Our commercial vacancy rate has been slashed by more than 57% since the beginning of 2013.-Mentored dozens of small business owners through one-on-one strategy sessions, Business Development Committee meetings and counseling through our partner agency, the Small Business & Technology Development Center.-Created hundreds of thousands of dollars in economic development through targeted code enforcement, new business openings and administration of Baltimore Development Corp’s Façade Improvement Grant program.-Invested thousands of dollars in improvements on Washington Boulevard, thanks to generous in-kind contributions of street trees, flower pots, landscaping beds and on-going maintenance from Ruppert Landscape.-Improved public safety through strategic partnerships with Baltimore Police-Southern District, Citizens of Pigtown, leading to arrests, gun and drug seizures and a greater voice for Pigtown at district and citywide public safety meetings.-Co-sponsored three major festivals in 2013, including The Shindig, which brought 10,000 people to Carroll Park and featured performances by internationally renowned musicians such as Joan Jett and the Dropkick Murphys. The concert established Pigtown as a destination neighborhood and created opportunities for dozens of small merchants to market to concertgoers.

-Lead the Council President's P.L.A.Y. campaign, which establishes public-private partnerships to keep kids active and off the streets.-Created the Baltimore Hockey Classic, a preseason hockey game between the Washington Capitals and Nashville Predators on September 20, 2011. The Baltimore Hockey Classic is the first NHL game in Baltimore in nearly 20 years.-Developed The President's Cup, a city-wide high school baseball tournament between the top public and private schools in Baltimore City. The tournament was co-sponsored by Major League Baseball and the Baltimore Orioles. Eight schools participated in 2011 and 16 will participate in 2012. Press coverage included a front-page article in The Baltimore Sun.-Established a NHL Street hockey program in Baltimore City, in coordination with the Washington Capitals and the City's Department of Recreation and Parks. In 2010, two recreation centers received brand new street hockey equipment from the Capitals and the National Hockey League. In 2011, four more centers received equipment. Each center received hockey training and visits from the Capitals and the mascot, Slapshot. In August 2011, we hosted a city-wide street hockey tournament, featuring all six centers, at The Dome.-Established rink partnership agreements between the Washington Capitals and Baltimore City's two ice rinks - Mimi DiPietro Family Skating Center in Patterson Park and the Mount Pleasant Ice Arena. As a result of these agreements, the Capitals donated hundreds of dollars worth of brand new ice hockey equipment to the Patterson Park Stars, a free learn to play ice hockey program for local kids.-Staff the Board of Estimates, Baltimore City's spending board.
