Having participated in competitive Speech and Debate since 1991, I was called upon by a group of parents and administrators to create and implement a curriculum, training regimen, and organizational structure for a competitive Debate Team at an elite private school. Seeing an opportunity to work with truly gifted students, I began working in earnest creating the system which would teach them critical thinking skills, proper communication etiquette, and how to navigate the world of the National Speech and Debate Association.During my time as Director, student participation increased from a handful of devotees to over two-thirds of the school’s population. Students thrived in this environment, earning prestigious awards at the local, State, and National Circuit-level prior to the close of the first season of competition.My role as Director meant I was also responsible for working with school Administration to create and maintain a functioning budget for a program which hadn’t existed previously. This presented unique challenges to overcome in terms of the division of tournament and travel costs between the School and student’s families, but through artful dialogue designed to achieve mutual satisfaction.

Quickbooks was the go-to for corporate accounting and payroll, Microsoft Office Suite to draft documents and spreadsheets for sales data tracking, and Adobe Creative Suite to both modify and create promotional materials for the shops.Where our organization thrived was in outreach and Public Relations. I facilitated all interaction between Ben & Jerry's and media outlets, including strategic planning, press release implementation and distribution, serving as spokesperson for the organization, and created all collateral material for consumption by internal associates as well as public outlets. My responsibilities for all marketing operations included research, development of marketing strategies, evaluation of marketing performance, and financial analysis of marketing efforts.
