Bob Rollins work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Immigration Attorney
Spurred by the policy changes in the U.S., in May of 2017 I reactivated my California bar membership and began working as an immigration lawyer, specializing in matters involving children and families. I worked with dozens of young people renewing their DACA authorization and on helping undocumented members of “mixed status families” prepare guardianships to be used in case a parent is removed (deported).
Ed Tech Specialist
As Ed Tech Specialist I worked to expand USACF’s efforts to improve access to educational technology for African children, families and educators. My focus was on bringing access to online resources and I worked to launch 5 pilot projects in South Africa and Zimbabwe. These projects informed our launch of the Bridge Project in October, 2017.
Ed Tech Consultant & Researcher
I have presented a range of trainings and workshops for public and private schools. Topics have included: hardware orientation, "Web 2.0" applications, GAFE, Google Classroom, digital citizenship and strategic planning.Since 2012 I have been involved in the academic research wing of ed tech and I work closely with colleagues from UC Berkeley’s iSchool. We presented our peer-reviewed paper "EnergyBugs: Energy Harvesting Wearables for Children" (which earned the Honorable Mention Award) at the Computer Human Interface conference in Toronto in 2014.
Teacher & Ed Tech Strategic Planner
In addition to being a classroom teacher, I filled a number of ed tech roles at Park Day. I was webmaster, Chair of the Technology Committee, oversaw a number of pilot projects, and lead the authoring of the school's strategic tech plan. In June, 2013 I began an initiative to expand a 23-Chromebook pilot project I launched earlier that year by acquiring over 110 Chromebooks, bringing the middle school to a 1:1 student to computer ratio. My research grant proposal was approved, funding was secured, and the deployment was very successful. Early in 2015 I led a new round of deployments, bringing Chromebooks to grades 3 – 5 and expanding the use of iPads in the lower grades.I continue to be involved in a range of ed tech pursuits at Park Day, including expanding use of online resources such as Khan Academy at Park Day, deploying and expanding the iPad Working Group in the lower grades, and growing the schoolwide use of Google Apps for Education.
