This harness accommodated testing of a complex “infrastructure as a service” product, for VMware EXSI and Citrix XenServer hypervisors. The framework exposed RESTful, SNMP, CLI, and TCL APIs in order to control the system-under-test, as well as homemade and third party test tools.Used the automation harness developed test-cases evaluation all functional aspects of the product (i.e. high-availability, billing, firewalls, VPNs, NAT, load-balancing, etc.). Mentored and tutored other engineers in using the framework through developing templates and one-on-one attention.Researched, wrote, and implemented automated test-suites based on new feature requirements of virtual appliances, in both IPv4 and IPv6 test harnesses.Led the effort in developing a nightly regression suite used in gauging the progress of the product through different stages of development and integration.

Contributed and oversaw the creation of thousands of automated test cases, consisting of well over one and a half million lines of code, based on the aforementioned libraries. Coded scripts, in Python, to utilize the Anagran Service Adaptation Interface and help the box integrate into various customer networks. Wrote a customized Netflow/IPFIX collector in C, using “Flowd” open-source code as a base. This was to accommodate Anagran’s customized “host-oriented” Netflow/IPFIX reports, as well as IPv6 reports. Researched and designed test suites for functionality, interoperability, and performance for BGP4, BGP4+, OSPFv2, OSPFv3 routing protocols. In OSPF some of the topics covered were Encryption schemes, route capacity, route convergence, topology scalability, equal cost paths, etc. In BGP4 some of the topics covered were Policy-based routing, route aggregation in both a Confederated or Route Reflected networks, route-dampening, etc. Researched and designed test suites for evaluating the functionality and performance of the layer3/layer4 forwarding on the Anagran FR-1000. Some of the topics covered by these groups of tests were thorough traffic classification/QoS assignment, policing algorithm precision, CAC for some service classes, load balancing, etc.
Software Diagnostic Engineer Iv
Designed and implemented test suites for Alcatel’s next generation Digital Loop Carrier (DLC), the Lite-Span 1701. Wrote requirements for entire broadband (i.e. ATM, IPv4/Ethernet) implementation on the DLC. Wrote detailed conformance, functional, and performance test suites (~ 900 test cases, 2000 pages) for the evaluation ATM and IPv4/Ethernet technology on the LS-7210. Wrote libraries in Perl for automating the SUT as well as the corresponding test equipment, Spirent’s Adtech AX/4000 and Smartbits SMB2000. Lead a team of four junior and two other senior engineers in implementing 100% and automating 80% of all test cases, using the automation harness through three rounds of testing. Worked very closely with both software and hardware development teams in diagnosing and resolving complex functional and performance defects in the LS-7201. Wrote a “white paper” on implementing a Markov Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP) for emulating the aggregation of thousands of bursty flows, using only two traffic sources. Implemented this model, and used it for evaluating the scheduling and policing processes on the SUT. The effort was conducted over a wide variety of classes of service (COS), using the appropriate quality of service (QOS) metrics.

Designed developmental integration test suites for initial integration of various components (i.e. software, ASICs, firmware, and hardware). Designed and implemented physical, link, and network layer interoperability test cases using Cisco GSR and Juniper M40 core routers. Designed and implemented initial test automation harness in TCL/Expect. Designed and documented logical subsystem architecture for the entire system. Lead the effort in writing the functional specification for the inner working of the switch/router. Defined and consolidated the entire data-plane behavior for the router. Gathered information and purchased all test equipment (Agilent RouterTester, Adtech AX/40000, and IXIA) needed for the complete testing of the first revision of the router. Lead the effort in recruiting junior and senior test engineers (including a manager) for the system verification group. Worked directly on the issues concerning the implementation of different physical layers (i.e. SONET/POS OC-48c & OC-192c, Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber Channel), different link layers (i.e. PPP-HDLC, MPLS-PPP-DHLC, ATM, MPLS-ATM, Multi-protocol Frame-Relay), and different network layers (i.e. unicast IP, multicast IP). Worked closely with other senior engineers in sorting out the issues for implementing QOS-based routing and path selection for IP traffic.

Managed the implementation and use of the XDDTS bug-tracking software from PureAtria (Rational). Investigated, found, and corrected software defects in PVC-manager and UME-manager software components.
