Head Of New Media
As employee #1, I performed roles as editor, director and Head of New Media. I edited 5 feature films and helped grow the company into Canada's most respected documentary production house. In 2008, I released my first feature documentary, Rip! A Remix Manifesto, about copyright and creativity. The film was nominated by the Canadian Academy of Motion Picture Scienes for Best Documentary, and won audience choice awards at dozens of film festivals around the glove. It had theatrical runs in the United States, Canada, and Australia, and was broadcast in more than 20 countries. It is viewable online on Netflix, Hulu, Pitchfork TV, and on the National Film Board of Canada's website, where it is one of their most watched films of all time.At EyeSteel, I co-founded the first website by and for the homeless - Homeless Nation. In the days prior to smartphones, Youtube and Facebook, our organization did direct street outreach to homeless shelters, squats and parks. We recorded video testimonials, helped users create a profile, and encouraged them to blog and connect with other users.Homelessnation.org was awarded the e-Inclusion and Participation award from the UN World Summit awards, the 2008 Society for New Communications Research award, and two Canada New Media awards.
