For more than fifteen years, I worked in the Content Center for Meredith Corporation. While there, I was responsible for editing and retouching images for optimal color reproduction on a wide variety of subjects, including product matching, interiors, color balancing across several images, and fashion. The flagship magazine Better Homes and Gardens counted on me for the color corrections throughout the magazine and several other titles for the image work on their covers. Along with retouching photos, I would also create PDF files from the InDesign layouts, work directly with design and print vendors to assure pages would print correctly, and to troubleshoot issues as they arose. During my time with Meredith, I became one of the most respected members of the department. The BHG staff counted on me as an asset that can improve what they have produced and regularly said, “Brian can fix that.” My relationship with the designers allowed me to share information on the photographic process could be improved, leading to greater efficiencies and better photography overall. Additionally, I was an integral part of the technical development of the department, working on revised color profile processes, testing new hardware and software, and developing best practices and training. I was a principal member of the Content Center team that evaluated the current Meredith photography guidelines, diagnosing problem images providing solutions on how the photography could be improved. My passion for photography extends to other activities as well. I am a freelance photographer that has worked with The New York Times, Reuters, and others. I published a photography book on Mixed Martial Arts in Iowa called “Fight Night” and am working on a personal project called “A Mothers Love” that showcases the physical sacrifices mothers make to have children. I was also an adjunct professor at Des Moines Area Community College, teaching an introductory class, Photoshop for Photographers, and an Advanced Imaging Techniques class I created and developed that focused on complex retouching and color theory. It was the first time an advanced Photoshop class was offered at the school.I am currently available to work as a contractor through my BV and can be fulltime with a work visa sponsorship.
