Passionate about social justice and human rights, I am building my career within the social sciences, with a focus on direct social services.As an Austin College graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sociology along with an English minor, I have a strong understanding in how the social sciences and humanities can be instrumental in enacting social change. My time at a liberal arts college has helped me develop a broad worldview and exposed me to various kinds of social issues. Hence, my educational background shaped my commitment for improving the lives of the socially disadvantaged in any context. Currently, I am grateful to be carrying out my commitment towards social justice and human rights through my role as an Employment Specialist with Church World Service (CWS), a nonprofit refugee resettlement agency. This role has allowed me to directly help refugees find employment upon arrival and beyond. In coordination with case managers, the CWS housing and legal teams, and employer partners, it is a privilege to be involved with the teamwork and collaboration that results in the best support new arrivals deserve. Prior to my job at CWS, I completed an internship as a Research Assistant at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL). I primarily assisted in research on the topic of immigrants and refugees, specifically on this population uses computer-assisted language learning to learn local languages. This position significantly developed my multicultural skills and further increased my interest in aiding refugees.I am confident that my dedication and hard work as exemplified with my academic achievements, my nonprofit experience, and my desire to help those who are marginalized or mistreated will contribute to my success at CWS and future opportunities along my professional career.
